The Kentucky Story Teller

Douglass Shrley was born in Lousville, Kentucky in 1857 and he died in 1917. He was an author, journalist, and poet. He received little recognition until he started touring with James Whitcomb Riley from 1893 to 1895 and was soon known as The Kentucky Storyteller. On February 26th, 1894, he performed at the stage at the Madison Square Garden between sets done by Mark Twain and James Whitcomb Riley. ( New York Times )
